Panera networking is always a great place to make (+) contacts.
Will I see U tonight @ Yvonne & Howard’s LI Entrepreneurs (Mediteranean Diner in Bellmore)?

THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD

February 8, 2010 · 2 Comments

If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!

I just got this from a friend in Sweden. And thinking about David Gussin’s remark about his daughter saying “Who is John Wayne” I thought you guys would like this.

Yvonne

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning…. Uphill… Barefoot… BOTH ways Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on my kids about how hard I had it and how easy they’ve got it!
But now that . . . I’m over the ripe old age of thirty, I can’t help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You’ve got it so easy!  I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!   And I hate to say it, but you kids today, you don’t know how good you’ve got it!
I mean, when I was a kid we didn’t have the Internet.  If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalogue!!

There was no email!!  We had to actually write somebody a letter – with a pen!
Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox, and it would take like a week to get there!  Stamps were 10 cents!

Child Protective Services didn’t care if our parents beat us.  As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our ass! Nowhere was safe!

There were no MP3′ s or Napsters!  If you wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio, and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!  There were no CD players!  We had tape decks in our car.  We’d play our favorite tape and “eject” it when finished, and the tape would come undone..  Cause – that’s how we rolled, dig?

We didn’t have fancy crap like Call Waiting!  If you were on the phone and somebody else called, they got a busy signal, that’s it!

There weren’t any freakin’ cell phones either. If you left the house, you just didn’t make a damn call or receive one. You actually had to be out of touch with your “friends”. OH MY GOD !!!  Think of the horror..  And then there’s TEXTING .  yeah  , right.  You kids have no idea how annoying you are.

And we didn’t have fancy Caller ID either!  When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was!  It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn’t know!!!  You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn’t have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics!  We had the Atari 2600!  With games like ‘Space Invaders’ and ‘Asteroids’.  Your guy was a little square!  You actually had to use your imagination!!  And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen… Forever!  And you could never win.  The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died!  Just like LIFE!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on!  You were screwed when it came to channel surfing!  You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel!  NO REMOTES!!!
There was no Cartoon Network either!  You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning.  Do you hear what I’m saying?  We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!

And we didn’t have microwaves.  If we wanted to heat something up, we had to use the stove! Imagine that!
That’s exactly what I’m talking about!  You kids today have got it too easy.  You’re spoiled.  You guys wouldn’t have lasted five minutes back in 1980 or before!

Regards,
The Over 30 Crowd

7 Ways to Reuse a Banana Peel

February 7, 2010 · Leave a Comment

In a TWEET from http://greenstreetli.com/ I found this funny tip ;-)

To be honest, the only things we’ve ever thought banana peels were good for were to fill the compost and to make people fall. Then we came across these genius ways to reuse the slippery guys…

1. Help Your Garden Grow: Bananas are naturally high in potassium and encourages plant growth. Use banana peel or puree entire banana and bury with soil.

2. Shoe Polish: Use the peel to make your kicks nice and shiny.

3. Stop the Itch: Rub the inside of a banana peel on a bug bite helps itch relief.

4. Pain Reliever: The oil in a banana peel will help relieve the pain from burns and scratches.

5. Wart Removal: Tape a piece of banana peel on a wart, continue until it’s gone.

6. Make Houseplants Gleam: Just like peels can shine shoes, they can also be used to make the leaves of plants shine.

7. Removing Splinters: Similar to wart removal, tape a piece of the peel over the splinter. The enzymes will help dislodge the splinter and heal the wound.

Opportunity to promote your business

February 6, 2010 · 1 Comment

I am the Solicitations Committee chair for the Fashion Show/Chinese Auction to be held on June 6th, 2010 at my daughter’s preschool.

The event is attended by well over 600 people. If you wish to donate something and gain an opportunity to promote your business, please let me know. I will need your info at the latest by March 3rd, 2010!!

All donations will be raffled off. Donations are made into “baskets.”
The event is private to the school and its family and friends.
It is not a public event. However, the turnout last year was over 600 people.

There is a master basket list which is sent around to the >200 parents to review in advance, and of course they are available during the auction as well.

There is also a program that is created, which DOES get read by all the attendees as they await to view the fashion show. For a business card size ad, the cost is $20.

Rebates for Green Appliances

February 5, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Cash in on State Swap Program
2010-01-02

If you need a new kitchen appliance, hold that purchase off until next month if at all possible.  That’s when New York’s Great Appliance Swap-Out is poised to do for appliances what Cash for Clunkers did for autos.

The swap-out will take place during President’s Week, Feb. 12-21, when New York State residents can trade in their existing appliance clunkers for more efficient Energy Star and Consortium of Energy Efficiency models – and get a cash rebate.  That would come from the state’s $16.8 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding earmarked for rebates.

The program is good for the environment and consumers on tight budgets, says Frank Murray, president of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, which is administering the program.

SAVINGS: For purchasing an eligible refrigerator, $75; clothes washer, $75; freezer, $50.  But, if you also document that you’ve recycled your old unit, your rebate will rise to $105, $100, and $75 respectively.

BUNDLE: Go for a three-unit package of eligible refrigerator, washing machine and dishwasher, and you’ll get a $500 rebate, up to $555 with proof of recycling.
(Dishwashers don’t qualify if bought separately. )

CHECK ‘EM OUT: The deal is not retroactive if you make the purchase before Feb. 12.  The rebate money is also first-come, first-serve, so keep an eye on the countdown calculator that will be on NYApplianceSwapOut.com, where you can learn more program details.

DON’T ASSUME: Unlike Cash for Clunkers, consumers bear the responsibility for documenting and filing paperwork.  Consumers should check with the retailer about disposal or recycling of their old appliances.
