The 14 Most Important Presentation Tips

Thank to Brian Cohen, our featured speaker on January 27th. Brian talked about how to further ’develop and deliver your memorable elevator pitch’. And he sent us these tips. Consider joining him at Toastmasters to laugh and learn even more – http://www.toastmasters46.org

1)    Move your head

2)    Move your hands

3)    Move your body

4)    Eye Contact – Look into the eyes of your audience and alternate after a few beats or what feels right.  People will appreciate it.

5)    Open with fire. Start with something great. Not who you are and everything on your resume.  You can add some of those details second.

6)    POV – Point of View – Where is the other person (or your audience) coming from.  Put yourself in their shoes.  Always be “recipient focused.”

7)    Benefits – Are you just talking about the features of who you are or what your product/topic is?  People connect on the benefits.

8)    Use the MAGIC PHRASE – “For Example” This will cause you to use stories, case studies, analogies, etc.  This were people make full connection with your ideas.  Make sure each “for example” has a POINT or MESSAGE.

9)    Deliver Real Value.  People will remember you for that.

10)    Never READ to people.  This includes reading a script or reading off a PowerPoint.  Use bullet pointed notes and PRACTICE before hand.

11)    You are the star, not your PowerPoint or handouts, etc.

12)    Use Images to drive points home.  People remember images. This will help them remember your messages attached, and remember YOU!

13)    Emotion – Is there feeling in what you’re saying?  Are you speaking with energy?  People make a real connection with you when emotion is part of the mix.

14)    REHEARSE! – Practicing with a video camera will help you look great in half the time with twice the results.  In one take, you will see yourself the way your audience sees you and will be able to make quick changes.

The book is a true story involving two people that fate brought together. Describing their lives before and after Sue became afflicted with cancer, it shows how a couple handled a dreadful diagnosis and how the bond between them became even closer throughout their cancer journey.

Protect, Backup and Recover your Data
Information is one of your biggest business assets. You need an information technology partner who understands that. You need someone who believes information technology systems are more than just a bundle of wires and blinking lights: they’re the heart and soul of your business.
That doesn’t mean they can’t be a hassle, though. It can be daunting and frustrating to worry about whether your systems are secure, efficient, and effective when you’re busy attending to all the other needs of your small or mid-sized organization.

Business Development through Social Responsibility – How one person can make a difference

Happy Memorial Day Weekend

JFK’s Humor:

“The pay is good and I can walk to work”.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I was warned to be out of here in plenty of time to permit those who are going to the Green Bay Packers game to leave. I don’t mind running against Mr. Nixon but I have the good sense not to run against the Green Bay Packers.”

“I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together in the White House — with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.”

“Those of you who regard my profession of political life with distain should remember that it made it possible for me to move from being an obscure lieutenant in the United States Navy to Commander-in-Chief in fourteen years with very little technical competence.”

“Politics is an astonishing profession. It has enabled me to go from being an obscure member of the junior varsity at Harvard to being an honorary member of the Football Hall of Fame.”

“When we got into office, the thing that surprised me most was to find that things were just as bad as we’d been saying they were.”

“I see nothing wrong with giving Robert some legal experience as Attorney General before he goes out to practice law.”

“I have just received the following telegram from my generous Daddy. It says, “Dear Jack: Don’t buy a single vote more than is necessary. I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay for a landslide.”

“Several nights ago, I dreamed that the good Lord touched me on the shoulder and said, ‘Don’t worry, you’ll be the Democratic presidential nominee in 1960. What’s more, you’ll be elected.’ I told Stu Symington about my dream. ‘Funny thing,’ said Stu, ‘I had the same dream myself.’ We both told our dreams to Lyndon Johnson, and Johnson said, ‘That’s funny. For the life of me, I can’t remember tapping either of you two boys for the job.’

“Mr. Nixon in the last seven days has called me an economic ignoramus, a Pied Piper, and all the rest. I’ve just confined myself to calling him a Republican, but he says that is getting low.”

“It has recently been suggested that, whether I serve one or two terms in the Presidency, I will find myself at the end of that period at what might be called the awkward age — too old to begin a new career and too young to write my memoirs.”

“When President Roosevelt was running for a second term. . .some garment workers unfolded a great sign that said, ‘We love him for the enemies he has made.’ Well, I have been making some good enemies lately.”

To Make Hard-to-Crack Passwords, You Write the Rules

By now you’ve heard from countless experts that the best way to protect yourself online is to have hard-to-crack passwords for all your logins. “Don’t use any words that occur in the dictionary,” they say, “and don’t use easy-to-find information like your pet’s name or the street you live on.  And while you’re at it, forget about memorable number combinations like your address, your date of birth, or ‘123.’” Great advice, but if you’re also told never to write anything down, how on earth are you supposed to remember a string of numbers, letters, and characters you’ve intentionally made as random as possible?

The trick is to invent a simple set of rules that’s easy to remember and replicable across all sites.

Here are some examples. You wouldn’t want to use these specific scenarios, of course.

• First letter of each word in a common phrase + four-digit number + ampersand.  To change the password – something you should do every six months or so anyhow – just change the common phrase, or start using the second letter of each word.

• Site name + your first name backwards + four-digit number + same four-digit number with the shift key held down. To change the password, come up with a new four-digit number or start using your last name backwards.

• Take two words and run them together with a numeral at the beginning and a symbol at the end. So, “Gandalf” + “sesame” would yield 2Gsaensdalmfe#.

The trend these days is toward “pass phrases,” often composed of song lyrics or idiomatic sayings, rather than passwords. Why? Because password crackers can generate millions of guesses in a second. The more characters you have for them to work through, the longer it will take them and the greater the likelihood that they’ll move on to an easier target. In other words, length beats complexity.

Special Speakers 2010

David Myers

www.LearnHow2Learn.com
People exercise several ways. But have you ever given two minutes’ thought, in all the time you spend doing routines, to whether you can actually work out your MIND the same way, which affects EVERYTHING you do: how well you communicate, relate to people, relate to yourself, manage your life, your business, your job, your family, and how well you actually LEARN in the first place, even how well you do your work out, and how well you live when you aren’t working out. You spend all this time exercising your body to improve how you look and feel, BUT how you feel and see is still filtered through your mind, just as sensory perception is, so working your Body without working your Mind is like only working your arms but not your legs, or your front but not your back. Think about the amount of time and money you spend working out. Have you ever spent ten minutes or a dime on exercising how your mind works? Let’s break down the structure of information the way breaking open a rock reveals its crystalline structure.
